Typical Adult Training Session
A usual training session, at Harlow & Ongar Jikishin Ju Jitsu Clubs, is usually broken down into distinct sections, which are typified as: Free Time Approximately fifteen minutes. This allows students who are late to get changed and ready for training, allows students some time to talk, and plan their training session, allows the Sensei to teach novices the Breakfalls required, and the students to train on specifics either from the syllabus, or on the Street Self Defence techniques that have been demonClick to see a larger version of this Photograph.strated to them. This also gives Sensei the time to take the register (and the money, of course), to get any issues such as course bookings completed, get any forms filled in for Licences, organise those going for a grading, and take orders for uniforms, videos, and other items. Warm-Up Approximately half an hour. During the warm-up the class will complete a variety of exercises, including but not restricted to;
Techniques Approximately a quarter of an hour. This section is dedicated to Street Self Defence – the hard end of Ju Jitsu. The techniques here are based around the syllabus, designed to get the student out of trouble quickly, and with the minimum damage to themselves. The underlying tenet is “The best form of self-defence is escape”. Syllabus work Approximately an hour. Here you will learn all of the techniques needed to move up the ranks and eventually receive the coveted Black Belt. The syllabus is designed to build skills and reflexes, and to equip the student with all the skills necessary to successfully defend themselves. Details of the syllabus can be found on the main Jikishin Website. There is also time for competition training for Sparring, Groundwork and Kata, plus room for the higher grades to practice Ko Budo (Weapons).
